The new Policy Research Unit in Commissioning and the Healthcare System (PRUComm) provides evidence to the Department of Health to inform the development of policy on commissioning. We focus on maximising outcomes for patients.

Our analytical work supports understanding of how commissioning operates and how it can improve services and access, increase effectiveness, and respond better to patient needs.

The Unit is funded by the Policy Research Programme of the Department of Health as a centre of excellence for research on commissioning. Our objectives include:

– Developing high-quality research programs that support healthcare commissioners and policy-makers.
– Providing a national resource, holding evidence and research on commissioning.
– Bringing together academics who are experts in research of health services, organizations, and commissioning.
